Bright, Firm, and Protected: The Role of Vitamin C in Skincare

Vitamin C should be a vital component to your daily skincare regime. It is a powerful antioxidant that assists the cells in fighting off free radicals that damage our skins natural Elastin fibres and Collagen proteins. Damage to these components of the skin result in premature aging and the formation of fine lines and wrinkles on the skin. Vitamin C plays a pivotal role in the production of not only Collagen, but maintains the skins elasticity, firmness and structure.

By stimulating collagen synthesis within the skin, we can promote a more plump, youthful appearance on the skin. In addition to assisting the skin in slowing down the loss of this protein in the skin, Vitamin C also allows for overall improvement in the skins texture.

Vitamin C can improve darkened areas on the skin, also known as hyperpigmentation, including melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and age spots, by brightening the skin, and evening out the skin tone, as well as act as a protection to the skins cells by shielding the skin from the harmful effects of UV damage. This is achieved by Vitamin C inhibiting melanin synthesis by slowing down the activity of an enzyme known as tyrosinase.

Although Vitamin C is not in any way a substitute for sun protection, Vitamin C, paired with the correct sun protection, is the ultimate protection against the effects of UVA and UVB damage on in the skin.

Incorporating products such as the SkincareRx C-Fix Crystals, which will amp up any serum by delivering Vitamin C into the skin in its most concentrated form, to rejuvenate the skin while fighting the effects of aging and pigmentation, or TheraVine’s Anti-Wrinkle Skin Booster which not only smoothes out the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles, but also enhances collagen synthesis and inhibits melanin synthesis.

Night creams are the real knights in shining armour

Written by Youth Beauty on October 23rd, 2018.      0 comments

It is very common for people to think that having to use a night face cream as well as your usual daily moisturiser is just a money-making tool for cosmetics companies. The reality is that you will reach a stage that a day cream will no longer be enough, and that no matter how much day cream you applied or how often you tried to exfoliate (not advisable more than 2 times a week), you just won’t get your skin feeling silky smooth and hydrated.

Your skin wears off a lot of stress and pollution daily. At night, the skin needs to repair itself. The night hours are the prime time for our skin to regenerate and night creams are designed to nourish and care for it as we sleep. Our skin loses a great deal of moisture at night but also has a greater ability to absorb active ingredients at night. This is usually when micro-circulation will increase the skin’s response to active ingredients as well as cellular activity and this is the reason why more complex serums and treatment creams are applied at night.

Apart from moisturising your skin to keep it supple and comfortable,

professionally formulated night creams are designed with active ingredients that:

    • boost the blood circulation in your skin

    • reduce wrinkles, fine lines and patches of discolouration

    • help combat skin sagging

    • stimulate cell renewal

    • improve elastin and collagen production

    • soothe irritable or inflamed areas

    • improve the appearance of ageing skin

Serums and/ or face oils can be added for additional hydration and/or actives to target specific concerns.

How to choose a night cream

When faced with many options of night cream choices, it can be hard to determine which night cream is right for you. The below factors can help with some clarity:

  • AGE

  • SKIN TYPE

  • WHAT DOES MY SKIN NEED (treat pigmentation, age-spots, wrinkles, fine lines, dehydration)

  • INGREDIENT CONTENT

Let’s face it - none of us like to think of ageing and the changes that the body will encounter. If you are reading this and you are 20, you are probably rolling your eyes and thinking ‘old, me’ never…’ but the reality is that there is no way around it, just (k)nights (creams) in shining armour to come to save the day.
