How Hypnosis Can Be Applied To Cosmetology

While most people swear by their beauty routine, often involving slathering on expensive creams and lotions, a new approach to beauty is emerging. One that doesn't try to treat your skin from the outside, but instead makes you look inside at what other factors are affecting it.

How Does Hypnosis Help?

Glowing skin doesn’t have to have a price tag or come in a bottle, instead you just need a few self-hypnosis techniques to have the healthy skin you’ve always dreamed of. It may seem a little far fetched that thinking your way to better skin would actually improve your outside appearance, but that is really what self hypnosis does!  As most skin problems arise from stress and neglecting your skin care routine due to low mood, self hypnosis is being seen as a saviour for your skin, with hypnotically beautiful results…

Skin care experts have always known the power emotions have in influence your skin. At events like Taiwan Beauty Show 2018, there are planned discussion about the role that your mental health has on the condition of your skin. This new approach to beauty goes against the old traditional wisdom that beauty is only skin deep. Instead it takes a more holistic approach and asks questions about how you can improve your lifestyle in order to improve your appearance.

Many have already discovered that their diet can affect their skin, everyone has experienced a breakout after guzzling that naughty chocolate bar, and noticed an improvement in skin hydration after drinking lots of water. Self hypnosis works in the same way, and can even help with treating skin conditions like psoriasis, and eczema.

Save Your Skin - Don’t Stress Out

Your skin will look lifeless and dull if you feel too anxious, stressed out or too depressed to look after it properly, which can make your skin problems even worse, and that’s where hypnosis comes in! By making you feel better on the inside, you’ll see the results in your skin.

Stress can trigger breakouts and lead to dry skin, because when stress hormones, such as DHEA, cortisol and adrenaline are released it upsets the natural balance of your body, also called ‘homeostasis’. This can lead to huge changes in your skin, and the potential for new skin issues to develop.

Cortisol leads to your skin producing more oil, which in turn leads to blocked pores and acne.

As stress levels build, scientists have noticed an increase in neuropeptides, which are linked to increasing blood vessel over-activity. This can turn your blush into a permanent thing and affect your skin texture as well.

Stress can also dehydrate skin, opening up your pores and giving allergens the chance to infiltrate. It also makes your more prone to irritants and other contaminants, both of which can lead to long-term skin issues, like psoriasis.

How To Use Self Hypnosis As Part Of Your Skin Care Routine

Self hypnosis has the effect of making your stress levels drop off a cliff. It relaxes your mind, and your body follows. It’s easy to start self hypnosis - one great way is to buy a relaxing CD and listen to it as part of your usual skin care routine. You can also contact a specialist hypnotist and ask for their help, or attend classes. They will help guide your hypnosis and give you new thought routines to try at home. Here is one routine to get you started:

Step 1: Induce a hypnotic state by trying to stare at your own forehead. This produces a slight eye strain and looking upward should make you feel sleepy, but also focused.

Step 2: Use your imagination to make you feel like your eyes are closing of their own accord. There are many ways to do this, but the classic is to imagine that your eyelids are getting heavier and heavier. Make sure you keep your head in the same position and focus on trying to look at your forehead.

Step 3: After you feel your eyes close, as though you were drifting off to sleep, you are in a hypnotic state. It will open up a door to the inner workings of your mind. You should feel focused and responsive.

Step 4: Relax your entire body, this will help you go into an even deeper hypnotic state. If you’re struggling to let your muscles relax, then try tightening them one by one and then releasing the tension.

Step 5: Use a soothing and calm tone to communicate to yourself. You need to let yourself know that you are doing great, don’t use too much effort as this will negate the effects of the hypnotic state. You should aim to be gently reassuring.

Step 6: Start to be mindful of your whole body. Notice your breathing, especially when you breathe out. Be aware of how the air feels as it passes through your lips and nostrils. Don’t try and change anything, you should just be super relaxed.

Step 7: Start to draw your attention to your skin. Try to notice things like the temperature you feel around you, and any spots of tightness or discoloration.

Step 8: Then imagine the sensation of bathing in the sunshine. Pick a place you like to sunbathe, such as a beach, and try to picture the sun shining down on your skin. The light should feel good, and gently warm areas of your skin. Then imagine the light healing your skin wherever it touches you.

As you get better at these self hypnosis techniques and start to relax, your skin will start to become revitalise and you’ll get that sought-after glowing look that only comes from good health, both body and mind.
